Is it actually faster than our current setup?
If footage currently moves by cloud sync or portable drives, yes: wired gigabit sustains ~110 MB/s — about 15 minutes per 100 GB — with no upload round-trip and no drive-walking. If you already run a 10 GbE SAN, keep it; Oxolan is for the offices that don't.
What happens if a transfer drops mid-shoot-dump?
It resumes where it stopped. Transfers are chunked with a persisted progress map, so a 300 GB dump that hiccups at 80% continues from 80% — verified engineering behaviour, not marketing.
Can editors browse the ingest machine directly?
Yes — remote browse and search let any machine look through another's shared folders and pull files, so the edit bay fetches selects without interrupting ingest.
Do we need a server?
No. Oxolan is peer-to-peer between workstations. A NAS can stay for archive; the daily bay-to-bay movement stops depending on it.
