Animation & VFX

Your render farm talks over the LAN. Your artists should too.

An animation pipeline is thousands of files moving between artists all day — scene files, texture libraries, reference, playblasts, EXR sequences where a single shot is tens of gigabytes. Cloud sync tools melt on frame sequences (ten thousand small files), USB drives don't scale past two artists, and Windows shares drop machines off the network mid-crunch. Studios in production can't spend crunch week debugging network discovery.

How your office runs with Oxolan

Every workstation, permanently visible

Animator, lighter, comp, supervisor — all machines discover each other in ~300 ms and stay visible, even when Windows' own network discovery breaks after an update.

Shots move at wire speed

A 30 GB EXR sequence crosses the room in ~5 minutes on gigabit. Resume-after-drop means an interrupted sequence copy continues instead of restarting at frame 0.

Scene files lock while open

When a scene is being worked, it locks — no more two-artists-one-file version disasters the night before a delivery.

Shared workspaces for the pipeline

Keep a synced working folder between the machines that need it, with conflict handling — without every artist mirroring the whole show.

Unreleased work stays unreleased

Client IP never touches a third-party server: encrypted machine-to-machine transfers inside your studio only.

Your files, at wire speed

Typical fileSizeTime on wired gigabit
Scene file (Maya/Blender/AE)0.1–2 GB1–20 seconds
Texture / asset library5–50 GB1–8 minutes

Times assume ~110 MB/s sustained on wired gigabit — Oxolan's verified range is 60–115 MB/s depending on network and disks. Try your own numbers:

  • Wi-Fi 5 — average office · ~25 MB/s13 minutes
  • Cloud round-trip (100 Mbps up) · ~12 MB/s28 minutes

Time = size ÷ sustained speed. Cloud adds the receiver's download on top. Oxolan moves files directly over the LAN — the top row is the one your office cable already paid for.

Frequently asked questions

How does it handle frame sequences (thousands of small files)?

Transfers are chunked and streamed over one connection rather than per-file cloud-sync round-trips, which is exactly where sync tools fall over on sequences. Folders of frames move as a job, and interrupted jobs resume.

Does it replace our NAS or render farm storage?

No — central storage for the farm stays. Oxolan replaces the artist-to-artist layer: getting shots, scenes and reference between workstations without mapped drives, sync clients or drive-walking.

We're a mixed Windows/Mac studio. Supported?

Yes — Windows 10/11 and macOS 12+ are both first-class; machines see each other regardless of OS.

Is client work safe on this?

Transfers are TLS 1.3-encrypted between certificate-pinned machines and never leave your network — the strongest possible answer to an NDA's "where does our IP live" question.
